Understanding, Chanting, and Integrating the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali: Chapter One
Classical Yoga, as taught by The Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali is a moksha, a path of liberation. The Yoga Sūtras offer the wisdom and practices needed to individually unbind ourselves so we can collectively evolve towards a more open-hearted and just society for all. This series studies the 51 sutras in the first chapter, which reveal what’s needed for our path to liberation (less suffering). Claudette leads students through traditional chanting of the Sūtras in their native Sanskrit, and Jenny offers insights to the meaning of the Sūtras and how they pertain to our modern lives.
This series is designed to provide a solid grounding in direct knowledge of the Yoga Sūtras. As we engage each sūtra, we will uncover the depth of meaning, understanding the grammatical and esoteric significance of each, by means of svādhyāya (self-study) through chanting, discussion, and contemplation.
The ancient sounds of the Sanskrit language, when chanted, open the individual to higher levels of awareness and connection to the Self. Chanting yogic texts with awareness, creates a richness unavailable to the practitioner when simply reading translated works of yoga philosophy. This potent combination of study will aid serious practitioners in search of the “next step” in their evolution, leading you toward your own self-mastery.
Jenny and Claudette have both studied in the lineage of Vyaas Houston of the American Sanskrit Institute for decades. Please join them for this eight-week practice of embodiment.
