Six years ago 8 Limbs held its first admin staff retreat. There were I think six of us at the time, and we circled up in my living room for an entire day to talk about strategic planning for the next two years. Every February since then we’ve gathered to either reaffirm or rediscover what will guide us in the coming year.
In 2009, in the wake of the economic downturn, we focused on sustainability and depth of teachings. In 2011 we chose “community” as one of our tenets, which brought about the creation of the 28-Day Commitment (this year’s group of 200+ just completed a month of daily practice – CONGRATULATIONS!!!!). In2013 we decided to find ways to make 8 Limbs not only “deep” but fun and enjoyable. Hopefully we have succeeded in all of these goals!
This year 8 Limbs Executive Director Ashley Dahl took a beautiful and promising tack. She asked us to come utterly from our hearts and ask how best we can best do the following in the next two years:
- take care of business
- take care of our own
- spread the love
Some amazing ideas were shared, and we’ll be working to put our brainstorming into action over the next two years. 8 Limbs wants to stick around for a long time. We want our employees to be happy and supported. And we want to have great impact on our community, both our students and the world beyond.
The meeting was, for me, a complete and utter delight. I am so proud to be a part of a business that can have meetings about coming from the heart! Business CAN be meaningful and sustainable. Look how much fun we had!
Thank you for being the inspiration for our work! We couldn’t and wouldn’t do it without your passion for the practice.
Don’t miss the amazing programming for March. We will host two yoga luminaries, Gary Kraftsow (full) and Rama Jyoti Vernon. You can dig deep into Asana with a Home Practice workshop or Master Class on Backbends, or go beyond asana with Intros to Meditation & Pranayama, Citta Nadi, and monthlySoundbaths!
