Class Descriptions

At 8 Limbs, you will find a variety of class styles that are instructional, insightful, and appropriate to your level of yoga experience. Our experienced and highly trained instructors bring their own expertise and passion to their classes.

  • Our Level 1 classes are specifically geared to support beginner students, those who are returning to yoga after a hiatus, or those who prefer a slower pace and more foundational practice. Students will learn basic yoga postures (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama). Classes may include elements of Flow, where breath is connected with movement, with an emphasis on proper alignment. Complete beginners may wish to attend our Introduction to Yoga Series first.

  • Our All Levels classes are designed for any level of student, regardless of previous yoga experience to enjoy a practice that balances strength building, stretching, and relaxation. Instructors will provide options for students to intensify or modify their practice so that each individual can find their own sustainable level of challenge.

  • Flow classes are a great choice for those with previous exposure to yoga. Breath is linked with movement so students can expect a quicker pace compared to our Level 1 & All Levels classes. Some more advanced poses and breathing techniques may be offered.

  • This special Sunday morning class (Phinney Ridge) is a beloved experience at 8 Limbs. This is a Flow class which is combined with elements of Bhakti Yoga; a devotional practice that will include mantra, chanting, and mudra (symbolic hand gestures). Students with some previous exposure to yoga will benefit most from this class, however all levels of students are welcome to attend.

  • These challenging classes are creative and fun. Sequences start out slow then gain pace from pose to pose, challenge to challenge, and become deeper and more demanding. Expect a full-body workout that will help you release tension, build strength, and improve balance. We recommend students have previous experience in Flow or All Levels classes before attending.

  • Our Core & Pranayama class draws from elements of core focused work from disciplines like yoga, pilates, and other exercise modalities. Pranayama (breath-work/techniques) builds vitality by steadying the mind, building core awareness, and balancing physical & mental energy levels.

  • This class blends yoga, mat Pilates, and core stability exercises with an emphasis on breath awareness. This is a physically challenging practice that will strengthen the large and small muscles of the front, sides, and back of your core. Expect yoga poses intermixed with Pilates.

  • Our Gentle classes are perfect for those who are newer to yoga or who prefer to move at a slower pace. Combining mindful stretching with subtle strength building, students will be guided through sequences that harmoniously balance effort and ease. These classes are a great choice for Seniors, beginners, those recovering from injury, and experienced practitioners who enjoy a more relaxed pace of practice. Complete beginners may wish to attend our Introduction to Yoga Series first.

  • These soothing practices include ~45 minutes of Gentle Yoga followed by ~15 minutes of Yoga Nidra guided meditation. Yoga Nidra is practiced laying down in a comfortable, supported position, where students are guided to the deeply relaxing mental space between sleeping and waking. This utterly soothing experience restores energy levels and builds internal awareness of body and mind.

  • Our Yoga Tune Up classes combine elements of Gentle Yoga with the Yoga Tune Up method using tune up balls to massage the body. This method both eases physical tension through massage while stimulating awareness. Functional movement techniques and yoga poses support the areas massaged to improve strength, stability, and balance. This class is appropriate for all levels of students and moves at an unhurried pace.

  • Restorative classes focus on supporting and soothing the nervous system through rest & stillness. Students should expect seated or reclined yoga poses, supported by yoga props like blankets, bolsters, and blocks. Poses are held for several minutes to allow students to find deep & complete rest and relaxation. Previous yoga experience is not required for this special class. Come as you are.

  • Similar to Restorative; Yin classes include seated and reclined poses held for several minutes. However, in Yin poses, deep stretching is encouraged to release tension in the fascia; the layer of connective tissue that wraps around the whole body. This class, while relaxing, may prove more stimulating or challenging compared to our Restorative class.

  • Our Yin & Yang class is designed to explore the energetic balance between effort and ease in the body and the mind. Using the Taoist principles of Yin (passive) and Yang (active), this class offers contrasting postures, pranayama, and meditation to reap the benefits of both aspects on the yoga mat and in daily life. This class is appropriate for all levels of students.
