As some of you know, I am writing a memoir about being a young woman entrepreneur who is ambitious and expansive but shifts to more sustainable and collaborative business practices after a spate of personal and business challenges. Yes, this is the story of 8 Limbs, 20 years old this year, and you can read a little bit of it, if you want, when you’re done with this newsletter.

While today is May Day, International Worker’s Day, this week is National Small Business Week. I don’t think this is an accident, rather a perfect intersection of two vital aspects of our economy. They are both essential, and they both need to be supported and protected in order to thrive.

When you come to 8 Limbs you do just that. You support a small, woman-owned business that would be nothing without you, and you support your yoga teachers in their amazing work to share yoga practices that uplift, ground, energize, and calm you. You support teachers brave enough to sing their hearts out, play an entire Prince playlist in class, talk about intimacy, and show up week after week without any guarantee that anyone will be there. By attending their class you are placing your faith in their teaching, a business transaction that is also deeply personal.

To celebrate our new website and make that transaction a little easier on your pocketbook we are offering our special $8 for $80 pass, our more sustainable version of Groupon, through the end of day tomorrow, Monday, May 2. Get your own (1 per person), and please pass the word to a couple of people in your world who might not know about 8 Limbs.

Also, this month a percentage of your class pass purchases will go to Street Yoga, a local non-profit sharing yoga and mindfulness practices with youth.

This week, get curious about how you can support local small businesses. Even with the amazing growth of this city, I know many Seattle small businesses are faltering due to our city’s massive construction, the snarls of traffic, and the ever-rising costs of doing business. They need your dollars to keep their doors open.

Happy May Day!
