The Yoga Sutras of Patañjali, a classic Indian text, is an ancient collection of teachings that remains profoundly relevant in modern times. Known as a soteriological, or salvation-based text, the Sutras offer hope from the unnecessary suffering caused by human ignorance. Central to the study of the Sutras is the understanding of yoga as a meditative/awareness-based system that connects us to our true nature, one that is free of ignorance. With remarkable sophistication and complexity, these ancient proverbs reveal what is possible as interconnected human beings.

This weekend immersion offers lectures on key concepts in the Yoga Sutras. These concepts have been chosen for their accessibility, and each offers insight into the Yoga Sutras as a universal spiritual system. Meditation practices and awareness-based movement will also be offered. This immersion is open to all levels of practitioners with a curiosity of how life might become more safe, open-hearted, and easeful. There will be breaks taken throughout the immersion.

Topics will include:

  • The Yoga Sutras and Buddhism throughout Indian history
  • Sāṃkhya philosophy: Puruṣa and Prakṛti
  • Yoga Sutras: Dukha, Citta vṿtti, Sanskāra, Kleśa, and Vāsana
  • Awareness-centered asana and meditation
