Are you looking for a way to take your practice beyond the physical and become your best self?
Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras offers us a definitive description of Yoga and a precise inner mapping of the essential truths for strengthening awareness and becoming free from self-imposed obstacles. It is a crystal-clear model of living consciously in the present, being sure of our path and our choices.
You do not simply read the Yoga Sūtras. Each sūtra is an embodiment of living wisdom. In the Indian tradition, there exists the idea that when you learn something by heart, the practice is so much more than simply being able to recall it. What you learn becomes installed within you at a very deep level. When you recite the Yoga Sūtras in Sanskrit you become what they describe. Recitation becomes a practice in and of itself.
The ancient sounds of the Sanskrit language, when chanted, open the individual to higher levels of awareness and connection to the Self. Chanting Sanskrit yogic texts with awareness, creates a richness unavailable to the practitioner reading translated works of yoga philosophy. For serious yoga practitioners in search of the next step in their evolution, the chanting of the Yoga Sūtras is intended to lead you toward your own self-mastery.
The steadiness of our practice will generate discussion through a spirit of inquiry, energized by the chanting of Sanskrit and meditation. Through chanting and studying the grammar of select sūtras you will gain direct access to subtler states of consciousness. As we engage each sūtra we will uncover the depth of meaning through understanding the grammatical significance of each word. This course of study will include chanting Pāda One, the Chapter on Samādhi.
Please join Claudette Evans for this six-week embodiment exploration of abhyāsa and vairāgya, practice and self-mastery.
Open to all levels.
