Learn how to create backbends that are integrated, nourishing, and empowering.
Practicing advanced poses, doesn’t require that you have an advanced practice. We become more advanced in the practice by taking courses like these that show us How. And, as we put the good work in, over time, the capacity of our patience, and the acceptance of the bodies we have, will grow, and as a result so will our asana practice.
In this installment of Nancy’s Advancing Asana Intensives, students will explore popular backbends seen in most yoga classes; Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), Urdhva Muka Svanasana (Upward Facing Dog), Urdhva Dhanurasana (Upward Bow Pose), and Ustrasana (Camel Pose).
Nancy will teach students how to: open the 4 corners of the body (shoulders and hips); retain side body length; get the arm bones on the back plane of the body; and understand the healthiest position for the head in relationship to the shoulder girdle. And finally, through a practice that will open (and strengthen) the quads and hamstrings, students will discover how enlivening the lower body helps ensure that the legs take on the brunt of the work in the practice. Good back bends are leg intensive!
