What to expect in Erika’s classes: Erika teaches Jivamukti Yoga. Established in 1984 by Sharon Gannon and David Life, Jivamukti integrates not only the physical aspects of yoga, but the philosophical and spiritual as well. Along with meditation and reference to spiritual texts, you can expect a vigorous vinyasa practice with an emphasis on the fact that asanas are performed not as ends unto themselves, but rather as a way to gain access to the spiritual heart within. Erika teaches with a strong focus on intention setting and on breathing—inhales and exhales are counted as a way of anchoring the mind and creating space for stillness to set in, for compassion to arise, and ultimately, for personal freedom and self-understanding.
