What makes me happy?: Seeing Mt. Rainier after a long rainy spell, a rainbow, fresh snow, a wood burning fire, Fall colors, driving through mountain passes, walking barefoot on a sandy beach, participating in a sea of oms, coming home to the smell of chocolate chip cookies in the oven.

Interests: Yoga, walking, meditation, advocating for people with mental illness (we have a son with schizophrenia,) advocating for Seattle’s homeless population (volunteer at St James Cathedral Kitchen once a week,) blackjack, hiking and snow shoeing, semi-annual road trips to Big Sur.

Favorite yoga practice/pose and why: Back bends, especially Urdhva Dhanurasana and core poses, especially Paripurna Navasana because they scare away back problems.

Experience that changed your life: Between 2 stints at the University of Vermont, I traveled across country with a friend in a VW bus, playing the guitar in coffee houses in each major city and eventually ending up in San Francisco before deadheading back home to New Jersey. The trip left me with a determination to head west, which I did with my then new bride (with whom I’ll be celebrating our 45th this June) in the early 70s, first to LA and then to Seattle. Best decision we ever made!
