Lift your voice and your spirit with this joy-filled celebration of the divine. Melissa’s sweet and soulful voice is the perfect compliment to Rob’s earthy, singer-songwriter vocals. Together they weave ancient Sanskrit mantras with their heart-filled melodies, inviting you to release inhibitions and express your joy.
Kirtan is a form of Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion. Kirtan is the singing of ancient Sanskrit chants and mantras in a group setting. Here is a wonderful description of kirtan written by Krishna Das, one of the most prominent kirtan singers in the US.
“The words of these chants are called the divine names and they come from a place that’s deeper than our hearts and our thoughts, deeper than the mind. And so as we sing them they turn us towards ourselves, into ourselves. They bring us in, and as we offer ourselves into the experience, the experience changes us. They come from the Hindu tradition, but it’s not about being a Hindu, or believing anything in advance. It’s just about doing it, and experiencing. Nothing to join, you just sit down and sing.”
“Rob and Melissa light up the room with their soulful voices and their passion for Sanskrit chants and inspirational lyrics. Melissa’s angelic voice is the perfect complement to Rob’s more earthy, singer-songwriter vocals. Rob’s down-to-earth stories invite both the uninitiated and the more experienced kirtan participants to feel welcome.” – Jeni Martinez, Studio Owner at Three Trees Yoga
