This series will be presented remotely via 8 Limbs LIVESTREAM
This four-week course will introduce some of the deities, sages, and epic stories that bring yogic philosophy to life. Each class will feature a lecture/discussion where Douglas will share stories, artwork, music, and history, followed by a short physical practice that will allow participants to embody what they’ve just heard through yoga, Indian martial arts, and Indian classical dance. This series is for anyone interested in the mythology and history of yoga or the Indian arts that have influenced its development as a spiritual and physical practice. All you will need is comfortable clothing, a comfortable seat, and a little room to move.

Douglas has been teaching yoga at 8 Limbs for more than 20 years. He has been performing Odissi with Urvasi Dance Ensemble under the direction of Guru Dr. Ratna Roy since 2005. He frequently performs in India where he also studies Odissi at the Rudrakshya foundation of Guru Bichitrananda Swain, Chhau with Guru Sadashiv Pradhan, and Kalaripayattu with Guru Krishna Das at Vallabhatta Kalari. Through listening to the stories of these teachers, reading, visiting historical sites and enacting these stories through dance, he has immersed himself in these rich narratives and found them illuminating, profound, and fascinating and is passionate about sharing them with others.
