The Koshas, also called sheaths, or dimensions, in the Sanskrit language, are a system outlined in yogic scriptures that assists in understanding the totality of human existence and accessing its fullest potential. The Taittiriya Upanisad describes five layers, or sheaths, that cover, and/or provide access to the soul. From the gross to the subtle, these layers are what can keep us from our highest potential when not clear or transparent. Like lampshades over a bulb, they can obscure our inner light, keeping us from discovering and living from our true nature.

In this series we will discuss the five koshas as a whole, and then individually, linking each to an aspect of yoga practice that addresses the health and clarity of that sheath. Each weekly class will involve some lecture and a practice. You will complete the series with knowledge of this ancient perspective, practical tools, and a useful map to help you find your way to your True Self.

Please bring paper or a notebook and writing utensil, and dress to be comfortable seated and in practice.
