Drawn from the wisdom of Yoga, MuktaDance™ is a Conscious Dance Practice that focuses on developing non-judgmental awareness or witness consciousness. It is a profound and transformational practice that opens a doorway to self-acceptance and inner stillness through movement and sound. As witness consciousness develops throughout the practice of MuktaDance™, so does one’s ability to choose how to act on thoughts, feelings and emotions. MuktaDance™ offers a sacred and secure space where the dancer can explore, inquire and awaken to his/her true nature.
In this Six Week-Series we will explore the main tools of awareness:
- Feelings & Sensations
- Non-Judgmental Self Observation (Watching)
- Surrender (Allowing)
- In the Dance of Life (Witness Consciousness)
Through a rigorously crafted playlist and a variety of movement and dance exercises, MuktaDance™ six-week series delves into each tool of awareness; the practitioner dances and deliberately directs his/her attention to these tools, mastering the will and becoming able to access deep states of surrender.
In this MuktaDance™ six-week series Meditation in Motion is happening. The Dance is Breath in Motion… the Breath is the Dance itself.
“This spontaneous dance has two phases: at first, the dance has external, movements. Gradually these movements cease, until there is complete stillness, externally. Yet the dance is continuing inside. This kind of music and dance are the very highest kind of sadhana (practice), the very highest methods of purification of mind and body.” ~ Swami Kripalu
Our Deepening Series serve as a space for devoted students of the 8 Limbs community to take their practices further. These series will focus on helping students to deepen their practice and gain further experience with various asana, pranayama, and subtler energetic components of yoga, as well as how to apply these in a personal practice.
Classes will emphasize building a heightened awareness of the body on multiple levels, and then use that awareness to access deeper work of yoga. Some of the series may also cover how to integrate more advanced concepts of yoga philosophy into a physical practice. It is recommended that students have practiced yoga at least one year prior to taking these series.
