Join Maritza for the nurturing practice of Abhyanga. Translated as “to oil” (abhya) and “limb” (anga), this nourishing self-oil application helps heals the body and soul from the outside in. In fact, Snehana, the Sanskrit word for oil, may also be translated “to love”. This workshop will include exploration of the five main Ayurvedic elements that constitute the Universe, as we know it, and their intimate relationship to our own nature. We will learn about the Doshas or our in-born “constitution” – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha – and then we will practice Abhyanga Snehana or Self-care Oil Massage using the oils that best suit our constitution. There are many benefits to a regular Abhyanga practice and through this workshop you will learn how to do this for yourself.

Bring a sleeveless shirt, shorts or pants that can be rolled-up, socks and a medium-large size towel that you won’t mind getting a bit oily. Maritza will provide the oils, cups and paper towels for each participant. Participants will also receive a written summary of the workshop plus suggested guidelines on how to continue the practice at home. The workshop includes presentation and discussion, along with a full Abhyanga practice.
